With 'Silent Struggle', Ostend, Belgium, gives Attention to Suicide Amongst the Young

From March 25 till April 16 the statue 'Silent Struggle' by the Dutch artist SAZZA can be seen in the Belgian City Ostend.

With a life-size statue of a cowering girl, the City of Ostend wants to break the taboo surrounding depression and suicide among young people and make it open to discussion. The image is therefore an extension of the actions that the city has already taken in recent years to draw attention to the theme. The artwork will remain until April 16 and then travel to other cities. Suicide is the leading cause of death among young people between the ages of 15 and 29. With these figures in mind, the Dutch artist SAZZA created a life-size work of art 'Silent Struggle'.

The statue of a cowering girl is placed on the Zeedijk of Ostend, it will be there until April 16 and will then move to other Flemish cities. With the artwork, the City and the artist, want to break the taboo surrounding suicide. Because talking about your feelings helps. That message keeps recurring, both in previous actions by the City and in the conversations that artist SAZZA had with young people who attempted suicide in the past. Often those around us do not notice that someone is not doing well mentally. The taboo on the theme causes loneliness and misunderstanding.
