Water leak in the Louvre causes Damage, Mona Lisa not affected

The Denon Wing of the Louvre has suffered damage due to a water leak, a union representative reports.

The room containg Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece; Mona Lisa, was not damaged.

Due to a technical malfunction on the upper floor during the night, the area has been closed to the public and scaffolding has been installed,” the representative reports.

The galleries where the leak occurred, room 707, houses numerous works dating from the 15th and 16th century. 

One painting is damaged, Charles Meynier's The Apotheosis of Poissin, Le Sueur and Le Brun.

A message on the museum's website stated that: "for reasons beyond our control, certain rooms are exceptionally closed."
