Two Renoir Paintings Recovered After France Museum Heist
Two paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir that were stolen from a museum in southern France a month ago have been recovered, the town’s mayor Bryan Masson said.
Nearly a month after the burglary of the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-Sur-Mer, six suspects have been arrested and the two stolen artworks have been recovered.
The Mayor says: "I would like to extend my most sincere congratulations to the Marseille Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction (JIRS), as well as to all the mobilized law enforcement agencies—national police and municipal police—for their remarkable work.
I especially salute the investigators from SIPJ 06 and the Central Office for the Fight against Traffic in Cultural Goods, who conducted their investigations with determination and discretion.
These two paintings are not just simple works of art. They belong to the history of our town, to our heritage, and to the legacy left by Auguste Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer."
