The Met got the Green Light to build the Tang Wing

A milestone in the history of the Met, after a four-hour meeting with Landmarks Preservation Commission, the Met got the green light to build the Tang Wing - the Met’s new wing for modern and contemporary art.

The city commissioners unanimously supported the project—and called the design “refined and elegant,” “powerful architecture,” and a true expression of our “love for the public”, the Metropolitan Museum Director Max Hollein wrote on Instagram.

"I couldn’t agree more! Frida Escobedo’s design is thoughtful, elegant, modern, and full of vision, artfully weaving together The Met’s multifaceted architectural styles while drawing inspiration from our setting within Central Park. It honors our history while creating new, contemporary spaces for what’s next in the future of art history. So proud of our team and of the very many supporters - and very grateful to the commissioners for seeing the heart in this project."
