Birgit Donker, the director of the Dutch Photography Museum, has been suspended.
According to her, the suspension is the result of "possibly incorrect informing the supervisory board." The suspension comes at a remarkable time: the festive opening of the new location of the museum in Rotterdam-Kattendrecht is planned in September 2025.
The suspension took effect June 19, the museum's supervisory board confirmed to Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. The duration of the suspension will be determined after an internal investigation.
The museum's supervisory board could not explain why Donker was suspended, but Donker herself gave an explanation: "The supervisory board is said to have received information that may have been influenced by my actions in a way that may have prevented the board from fully or properly performing its supervisory task."
