Tencent’s CEO to open Museum in Shenzhen, China

Rong Museum, a flower-like structure within the M80 Campus in Shenzhen’s Houhai district, will open in 2027.

Pi Li, the former head of art at Hong Kong's Tai Kwun, revealed that he is the founding director and first employee of Rong Museum, a cultural institution with around 4,500 square metres in total floor area that will open in 2027.

The name Rong refers to the Chinese character for “blending” or “convergence”, which Pi says reflects the museum’s intent to function as a platform for promoting inclusive coexistence and global interdependence.

The Shenzhen museum will be housed in a flower-like structure within M80, designed by architecture firm Buro Ole Scheeren, which is also behind the new headquarters of Chinese tech company JD.com in the same area and which will boast an art museum. The JD Museum is headed by curator Robin Peckham and is slated to open in 2027.
