TEFAF Maastricht has an €86.4 Million Impact on the Netherlands

Commissioned by The European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF) and conducted by Deloitte as part of an independent research program, the annual TEFAF Economic Impact Report evaluates the fair’s contributions both to Maastricht and to the Netherlands.

For more than three decades, TEFAF Maastricht has positioned the city as a global meeting point for art, culture, and connoisseurship. Alongside its cultural significance, the fair generates substantial economic activity and contributes to the international visibility and attractiveness of the Netherlands.

As TEFAF has grown in scale and global reach, understanding its broader economic and social contribution has become increasingly important. Major cultural events such as TEFAF Maastricht generate economic activity through visitor spending, supply chains, and tourism, while also creating wider benefits in cultural exchange, social engagement, and international reputation. Assessing these effects helps institutions, policymakers, and stakeholders better understand the full value generated by cultural platforms.

This report presents the findings of an independent economic impact assessment conducted by Deloitte Luxembourg in collaboration with TEFAF, examining the direct and indirect economic effects associated with TEFAF Maastricht, as well as its wider cultural and social contributions.

Key takeaways

  • €86.4M total national economic impact generated by TEFAF.
  • €37.9M direct economic impact in Maastricht.
  • €34.0M indirect economic activity generated through supply-chain effects.
  • €5.6M estimated promotional value through international media exposure.
  • Significant cultural, social, and reputational benefits for Maastricht and the Netherlands.
