Tarik Kiswanson Laureate of the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2023

The Jury for the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2023 convened on Monday, the 16th of October 2023, to choose the laureate of the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2023 from among the four artists nominated for this edition: Bertille Bak, Bouchra Khalili, Tarik Kiswanson et Massinissa Selmani.

The Jury made its deliberations followed by a presentation of the artists by their reporters respectively: Cédric Fauq, Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, Jean-Marc Prévost, et Natasha Marie Llorens.

The jury composed of seven personalities - Xavier Rey, Claude Bonnin, Akemi Shiraha, Dr. Jimena Blàzquez Abascal, Dr Josée Gensollen, Béatrice Salmon, et Adam D. Weinberg - awarded the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2023 to Tarik Kiswanson. Born in 1986 in Halmstad (Sweden), Tarik lives and works in Paris (France) and Amman (Jordan). Tarik is represented by the gallery carlier | gebauer (Berlin and Madrid) and the Sfeir-Semler Gallery (Hamburg and Beyrouth).

"The exhibition represents, thanks to the excellence of the four finalists, the best of the French art scene. With Tarik Kiswanson we are honouring a multidisciplinary approach that is extremely accomplished both in its formal dimension and in its relationship with history. Drawing on the energetic relationships between different elements, his works aim, with great sensitivity, for a universal message."

Xavier Rey, Director of the Musée national d’art moderne : "Honour to the finalists of the 23rd Prix Marcel Duchamp, all credit to Tarik Kiswanson,
the winning artist, whom I congratulate on behalf of the 300 collectors of the ADIAF. It is important to remember that the Prix Marcel Duchamp is not a competition, but a designation of artists who exemplify the French art scene and showcase it on the international stage. More than a prize of €90,000, of which €35,000 is awarded to the winner, it is a comprehensive support scheme with a programme of international exhibitions organised by the ADIAF, supported by the Institut Français, and residencies for the finalists: in France at the Sèvres Manufacture, and in the USA at Villa Albertine, which will host our winner in 2024 for an exploration residency."
