In the same week that a burglary occurred at the Drents Museum, the Museum Van Marken in Delft has also reported the theft of some important collection items.
One or more individuals gained unauthorized access and emptied two display cases. A total of twenty objects and documents of unique cultural and historical value were stolen. The highlight of the collection was a silver tray commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Yeast Factory. The stolen items were donations from private individuals, and both the donors and the museum’s thirty volunteers feel deeply affected by the theft.
Museum director Lucas van Wees questions whether this is a "sick joke." He emphasizes that the heritage value of the collection far exceeds its economic worth. He has issued an appeal to the perpetrator(s) to return the stolen items anonymously and undamaged by March 1, promising that no legal action will be taken if they comply. Meanwhile, the foundation has filed a police report and is attempting to recover the losses through insurance.
