Restoration of Parthenon’s Western Facade completed
Restoration work on the western facade of the Parthenon has been completed, the Culture Ministry announced on Thursday, after the last pieces of scaffolding were removed from the external facade.
The development marks a major milestone in the decades-long effort to preserve and restore the 5th-century BC temple on the Acropolis.
The scaffolding had been removed temporarily in 2025, allowing visitors unobstructed views of the western facade, but officials had said at the time that conservation work was continuing and further interventions could follow.
The ministry said the latest work included the placement of two upright stone elements in empty positions on the western pediment and the completion of restoration on a supporting wall structure. Together, the interventions restore the architectural unity of the pediment, it said.
Officials said the western facade is now being presented in its most complete possible form for the first time in about 220 years.
