Protest at the Rijksmuseum over acquisition of Condom

Members of the Dutch ultra‑conservative Catholic foundation Civitas Christiana demonstrated at the Rijksmuseum against the purchase of an ancient condom.

The museum acquired the condom six months ago at an auction, and it is now on display. The condom features an erotic image of a nun with three clerics, which the demonstrators find far too much. “Very coarse and vulgar, this does not belong in the Rijksmuseum.”
Civitas Christiana director Hugo Bos calls the condom a “gross” insult. “First of all to God, and secondly to all Catholic believers and the Catholic Church.”
