Official Portrait of Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel Unveiled
For 16 years, Angela Merkel shaped the landscape of German and global politics as Federal Chancellor. Now, five years after leaving office, her official portrait has been revealed to the public.
Painted by the Franco-German-Canadian artist Jérémie Queyras, the painting will be on display at the Bode-Museum through October 4, 2026.
On the first floor of the Chancellery in Berlin, the legacy of Germany’s leadership is traditionally preserved through portraiture, with every past chancellor immortalized on canvas. Former Chancellor Angela Merkel's portrait will soon take its permanent place in this historic gallery.
The painting captures Merkel in one of her trademark tailored blazers. Rather than immediately moving to the Chancellery, the painting is making a limited-time public debut at the Bode-Museum.
