Mykolaiv School of Photography, Ukraine, launches a Bilingual Magazine about Photography

The Mykolaiv School of photography MYPH released its first bilingual magazine, '525', which will focus on contemporary Ukrainian photography.

With its first issue, “525” will present photography to Ukrainian and international audiences within the context of visual art. It will feature works by prominent Ukrainian photographers, images created by MYPH students, and collaborative projects with the Association of Professional Photographers of Ukraine and the Kharkiv School of Photography.

“Ukrainian photography is desperately vibrant and bold. Not having any professional institutions, it possesses a unique feature — honesty. Because no one determines what it should be. This is an advantage that not many people realize. For me personally, it is a desire to show this raw nerve to the world on the one hand, and to give confidence and grounding to young authors within our country on the other. We will publish content in two languages to be heard both within the country and abroad. That’s also the reason why emerging artists appear on the pages alongside established professionals,” said Olha Lobazova, co-creator of the magazine.

The first issue, “Glass and Steel,” will focus on the theme of “traumas, losses, and hopes that shape the future generation in Ukraine.”

A team of photographers, united by a common interest in the development of Ukrainian photography, worked on the issue: Olha Lobazova, Oksana Meister, Veronika Mol, and Robert Dovganich. In addition, the magazine’s creators plan to launch a permanent open call for new projects.
