His work, which straddles the visual arts, furniture and installation, was known and recognized throughout the world. Mr. Marc Camille Chaimowicz, artist and designer, passed away on Thursday, May 23, at the age of 77.
Born in Paris after the Second World War, he had followed his parents to London, but had returned to France in May 1968. Returning to the English art school he attended, he had continued to cultivate this spirit of freedom by joyfully playing with the boundaries between fine and decorative arts. He had since established himself as an original and non-conformist artist, gaining worldwide recognition. Throughout his career, he has multiplied material creations, always presented with a keen sense of staging and installation. In France, he had been the subject of an extensive solo exhibition at the Consortium Museum in Dijon in 1984.
