Louvre Staff vote to strike Again
Louvre Museum staff in Paris on Monday voted for a strike this week over working conditions.
The museum opened partially and three hours late on Monday, with visitors able to view rooms containing masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa or the Venus de Milo. Other parts of the museum were closed to the public.
The Louvre museum admitted to a major leak in late November, nearly two months after an embarrassing heist in which French crown jewels were stolen from its permanent collection.

The Louvre also had to close a gallery containing ancient Greek ceramics over fears for the safety of a ceiling.
Unions representing Louvre staff say employees are overworked and that the museum is understaffed and poorly managed. They are calling for increased hiring, higher wages, and improved oversight of how the museum’s budget is allocated.
It is not yet clear when the Louvre will open on Wednesday. The museum writes on it's website: "Wednesday 7 January 2026,The museum may open later and some exhibition rooms may remain closed. We apologise for the inconvenience."
