JR's Cave on the Pont Neuf Paris damaged by Bad Weather
The printed canvas cave by JR installed on Paris's oldest bridge, the Pont Neuf, has been damaged by bad weather.
"We are currently managing the situation. This is one of the unforeseen events, one of those things that can happen when you install a work of art outdoors. We are simply assessing the situation," explained a member of the artist's team. "Engineers are currently on site and are working on the canvas. There is neither optimism nor pessimism, just pragmatism. We are going to conduct a thorough assessment of the storm's consequences and determine what needs to be done."
A statement from JR Studio, the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation, and L'Amicale des Ponts de Paris following the damage of La Caverne du Pont Neuf says: "Earlier today, La Caverne du Pont Neuf has experienced a damage. The project's technical experts are currently working to establish the exact circumstances that led to the incident. As soon as the assessment has been completed, we will communicate its findings. In the meantime, the decision has been made to postpone the opening of the installation. A new opening date will be determined in light of the conclusions of the ongoing assessment."
