Italy Donates Replica of 'Bull of Nimrud' to Iraq

The Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Greganti, unveiled a plaque at the Basra Museum in Iraq, marking Italy's donation of a replica of the 'Bull of Nimrud' to Iraq. This contribution signifies a pivotal moment in the cultural restoration efforts following the destruction of the original Assyrian artifact by Isis-Daesh in 2015.

In a moment of cultural reconstruction, Maurizio Greganti, the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, unveiled a plaque at the Basra Museum signifying Italy's donation of a replica of the "Bull of Nimrud" to Iraq. This significant contribution marks a tide-change in the process of cultural restoration following Isis-Daesh's destruction of the original Assyrian artifact in 2015.

The unveiling ceremony brought together an array of Iraqi officials, including Ahmed Fakak al Badrani, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities. Italy's steadfast commitment to preserving and restoring Iraq's cultural heritage was underscored throughout the event, with Ambassador Greganti expressing deep admiration for Iraq's artistic legacy and ratifying Italy's continued support.

The replica of the Lamassu, a winged bull hailing from the ancient city of Nimrud, serves as a potent symbol of resistance against cultural obliteration. Crafted by a team of Italian restorers, the replica was enabled by the coordinated efforts of the Associazione Incontro di Civiltà and the financial backing from the Terzo Pilastro Foundation.

The Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano and the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani communicated messages underscoring the importance of cultural preservation and the profound cultural ties binding Italy and Iraq. The return of the replica to its homeland in Basra is hailed as a triumph over the iconoclastic terrorism of Isis-Daesh, and a testament to Italian mastery in cultural heritage restoration.
