Iran plans to turn Site of destroyed Minab School into Museum

Iran plans to turn the girls' school that was bombed on the first day of the war into a museum commemorating the victims who died in the bombing.

The Iranian government said in a statement on Monday that "this school is living proof of the Americans' willingness to commit crimes and must be recorded and documented to preserve it in the historical memory of the Iranian people."

At least 168 schoolgirls, aged between 7 and 12, were killed, along with 26 teachers and four parents, in the attack that took place in the southern city of Minab on February 28.

Various media reports indicated that the United States was responsible for the attack. The New York Times and CNN, citing confidential sources, reported that preliminary findings of an investigation pointed to US responsibility.

The United States reportedly targeted a base belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, to which the school building previously belonged. Outdated site data is said to have led to the fatal error.

No further information was available regarding plans for the museum. The school will be rebuilt at a different location to commemorate the victims.
