The Louvre Museum, the heart of classical art, will temporarily house a fresco by Belgian contemporary artist Luc Tuymans, the institution announced today.
Luc Tuymans is invited by The Louvre Museum, Paris, to create a temporary work in the Rotunda Valentin de Boulogne, at the junction of the so-called 'Sully' and 'Richelieu' wings, at the heart of the French paintings and near the Flemish school.
Luc Tuymans has continually explored new forms while remaining part of the great painting tradition. His work has been exhibited in the world’s greatest museums. For this first project, in the Louvre Museum, marking the return of the act of painting within the museum's walls, he creates an in situ temporary fresco titled 'The Orphan.' This four-panel work assembles three images representing the cleaning of a palette. They embody the museum's special role as a school for artists and creating works. While the cleaned palette also signals a form of cruelty, it is joined by a fourth image, that of a lost work by the artist titled 'The Orphan,' which gives its title to the cycle."
