The so-called “Karlsruhe Sketchbook” by the German artist Caspar David Friedrich, one of the most important artists of the Romantic period, is to be auctioned on November 30th at the Griesebach auction house in Berlin.
As a result of the importance of Caspar David Friedrich's "Karlsruher Sketchbook" and the media interest surrounding this auction, The Department of Culture in Berlin initiated the process so the work can be added to the list of national cultural assets considered valuable. There is an export ban on the sketchbook for the duration of the procedure.
The sketchbook, estimated at up to 1.5 million euros, is to be auctioned this Thursday at the Berlin auction house Grisebach. The auction house said that the procedure has no impact on the planned auction, which will take place as planned.
