Frieze Seoul to Take Place at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in 2027
Frieze Seoul will move to Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), which will become the fair's new location for 2027. Frieze Seoul 2026, its fifth edition, takes place at COEX in Gangnam from 2–5 September, ahead of the planned redevelopment of the COEX site.
Designed by Zaha Hadid and opened in 2014, DDP is one of Korea's most recognizable cultural venues. Located in the Dongdaemun district, it has become a civic landmark for design, fashion and contemporary culture. Over the past 11 years, it has welcomed more than 120 million visitors in total, with around 17 million visitors annually.
The move brings Frieze Seoul to Dongdaemun, a district where design, fashion, architecture and contemporary culture meet. The fair's wider program, including Neighborhood Nights across Seoul's gallery districts, will continue to connect audiences with the city's galleries, museums and artist-run spaces during Frieze Week.
DDP's exhibition halls will give Frieze Seoul a more concentrated footprint. The 2027 edition will be carefully edited as a result, allowing each gallery and presentation greater prominence within a single, focused environment.
The move reflects Frieze's long-term commitment to Seoul and Korea. Since launching in 2022, Frieze Seoul has worked closely with Korean galleries, institutions and cultural organisations, both during the fair and throughout the year. Frieze Seoul was founded to bring the international art world into closer dialogue with Korea's artists, galleries and institutions, recognizing the country's defining role in contemporary art across Asia and the global significance of the Gwangju and Busan biennials.
Frieze Seoul will continue to take place in partnership with Kiaf SEOUL. The two organizations remain committed to working together in support of the Korean art scene and its audiences, including through joint programming. Visitors will continue to be able to purchase a joint ticket giving access to both fairs.
