The Flemish Government has decided to allocate an additional 18 million euros over the next five years to the cultural heritage sector. This brings the total amount for structural operational subsidies within the Cultural Heritage Decree to 51.5 million euros per year.
On September 29, the Flemish Government made decisions regarding five-year operational subsidies for cultural heritage organizations from 2024 to 2028. These organizations preserve our shared memory, tell stories from the past, and update cultural heritage so that future generations can cherish it and find meaning in it.
The allocated budget has been increased by 54%, reflecting the Flemish Government's commitment to fulfilling the goals outlined in the Governance Agreement. Never before has the government invested such significant resources in the cultural heritage sector. The additional funding will help in recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, covering rising costs, and providing the sector with the opportunity to thrive and grow.
