Five Arrested for Stealing Renoir Paintings in France

Five people have been arrested in France in connection with the theft of four works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir from the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Two of the paintings remain missing, while two others were found abandoned by the perpetrators during their escape.

The theft occurred in the early hours of September 8. The thieves climbed over the museum's fence, entered its premises after breaking a window, and used a chainsaw to detach the paintings from their supports.

Among the stolen works were "Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano", painted in 1910, and "Young Girl at the Well" (Jeune fille au puits), from 1886. These two works are still missing.

The arrests were first reported by the French newspaper Nice-Matin. According to reports, investigators are examining the possibility that the suspects may be linked to an organized group that deals with the theft of works of art.
