Female Suspect in Assen Art Heist Temporarily released

A 40-year-old woman from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, who was arrested in connection with the art heist at the Drents Museum in Assen, has been released.

She remains a suspect but is allowed to await further investigation while out of custody.
Three other suspects—men aged 26, 34, and 36, also from Heerhugowaard remain in custody. They are scheduled to appear in court in May for the first public hearing.
During that session, it will be determined whether they will remain detained. The suspects are being held under restricted conditions, they are not allowed any contact with the outside world.
At the end of January, during the museum break-in, archaeological artifacts from Romania were stolen. Among the stolen pieces were a famous helmet made of nearly pure gold and three bracelets, which had been on loan from the National History Museum in Bucharest.
A few days after the theft, the first three suspects were arrested, including the 40-year-old woman. Later, the police arrested a fourth suspect. The stolen artifacts have not yet been recovered.
If the artifacts are not found, the Dutch government will have to cover €5.8 million, the insured value of the stolen artifacts.
