Europe's tallest Virgin Mary Statue unveiled in Poland
Europe’s tallest statue of the Virgin Mary was unveiled on Saturday in Konotopie, Poland.
In the small village of Konotopie in Poland, a statue of the Virgin Mary was inaugurated on Saturday, measuring 55.6 meters, considered the tallest in Europe.
The ceremony was attended by Lech Wałęsa, the anti-communist leader, who emphasized the importance of faith in his life.
The statue surpasses the height of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and was funded by Roman Karkosik and his wife, as an expression of gratitude to God.
The ceremony included religious services and traditional music, and local authorities hope that the monument will become a place of pilgrimage and tourist attraction. Although the influence of the Catholic Church has decreased among the youth, it remains strong in rural communities. Wałęsa stated that the statue symbolizes the fulfillment of his struggle for democracy and faith.
