Burglars Strike Renoir Museum in France: Two Paintings Missing

​On Monday night, burglars broke into the Auguste Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, French media report. Initial findings indicate two intruders entered by smashing a glass door. Surveillance footage shows the pair tearing up photos until the alarm went off at 5:48 AM.

The thieves originally targeted four paintings, but dropped two while escaping and managed to run off with two, confirmed Bryan Masson, Mayor of Cagnes-sur-Mer.

Two bags, potentially belonging to the burglars, were recovered in the museum garden.

Authorities are still investigating the full extent of the damage, including which specific works were taken and their value. The museum is housed in the Collettes estate, Pierre-Auguste Renoir's final residence.
