A mural art piece which appeared on a wall in Kent has been confirmed as the work of renowned graffiti artist Banksy.
Located off Grosvenor Place in Margate, the piece is titled ‘Valentine’s Day mascara’. In a series of photographs posted to his Instagram account, the elusive artist confirmed the work was his.
The graffiti depicts a woman with a missing tooth and swollen eye shoving a man, presumably her partner, inside a freezer. The artwork also features a broken white chair, a blue crate and an empty beer bottle. The Valentine’s Day post appears to reference the ongoing fight and injustice women face against violence.
Artist Pete Brown was painting the scene when the freezer, which formed an integral part of the mural, was removed on Tuesday morning.
He said: "A council truck turned up and they took away the freezer," adding that the vehicle had the hazard warning lights and a metal cage typical of those used to clear fly-tipping.
Mr Brown, who was visiting Margate, said he had come to the resort to paint the sea, but after coming across the mural, had spent his time painting a scene of a wall instead.
The artwork is titled 'Valentine's day mascara' on Banksy's website
