Asylum seeker tears Clothes from Virgin Mary Statue in Swiss Chapel

In the Swiss town of Einsiedeln, a 17-year-old asylum seeker stormed a church service and attacked a Virgin Mary (Black Madonna) statue.

During the attack, he repeatedly hit the statue, tore her clothes off, and according to witnesses, placed the crown of the Virgin Mary on his own head.

The 15th-century statue sustained minor damage. The monastery is grateful that the situation did not escalate further and, most importantly, that no one was physically harmed. "We deeply regret this incident and extend our thoughts to those whose religious sentiments were affected. Our prayers and thoughts are with them, as well as with the individual who was taken into custody by the police."
The motives of this person remain under investigation.
