ASML Commits €100 Million to New Rijksmuseum Eindhoven
The Dutch city Eindhoven and tech giant ASML have formalized their partnership for the development and operation of the upcoming Rijksmuseum Eindhoven. Having previously announced ASML as a founding partner, the two entities have now detailed the scope of this collaboration in a signed Letter of Intent.
Starting from the museum’s projected opening between 2032 and 2034, ASML intends to provide an annual contribution of €5 million over a 20-year period, totaling a €100 million commitment. In the years leading up to the opening, ASML will support the project through a combination of financial funding, technical expertise, and personnel. The exact framework for this pre-opening phase will be finalized in 2027 under a formal sponsorship agreement.
The new institution was first announced in December 2025 as a major collaboration between the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the City of Eindhoven. Located in a new park along the Dommel River—just a short walk from Eindhoven Central Station at the start of Kennedylaan—the museum will bring masterworks from the world-renowned Rijksmuseum collection to the Brainport region.
Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Mayor of Eindhoven, emphasized the importance of the initiative for the region's expanding identity: "An attractive cultural offering is indispensable for our growing city. With Rijksmuseum Eindhoven, we are adding a top-tier cultural institution of international allure. That ASML is becoming a long-term founding partner is wonderful news for Eindhoven, demonstrating the corporate sector's deep social commitment to our region."
Frank Heemskerk, Head of Global Affairs & Community Engagement at ASML, noted that art and culture are vital pillars alongside technology and economics: "We are convinced that Rijksmuseum Eindhoven can grow into an internationally recognized museum and a major cultural anchor in the Brainport region. Through this long-term collaboration, we are investing in a place of lasting value for residents and international visitors alike."
Taco Dibbits, General Director of the Rijksmuseum, welcomed the collaboration, noting ASML's role alongside long-standing partners like KPN.
As part of the agreement, Eindhoven is actively working to secure additional partners to cover ongoing operational costs, supported by ASML’s corporate network. Further structural details will be established in Spring 2027, when the municipality and the Rijksmuseum sign their official joint-cooperation agreement.
