Art Basel has announced further highlights for its 2025 edition in Hong Kong, taking place from March 28 to 30 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), with Preview Days on March 26 and 27. This year's edition promises to captivate audiences with a robust mix of large-scale installations, thematic gallery presentations, and an extensive week-long public program spanning both onsite and offsite venues.
Art Basel Hong Kong 2025 is set to be a landmark event, bringing together 240 exhibitors from 42 countries and territories to celebrate global artistic excellence. This year’s edition will feature an expansive program of exhibitions, public initiatives, and collaborations, solidifying Hong Kong’s role as a cultural hub.
A standout feature of the fair is the Encounters sector, curated for the final time by Alexie Glass-Kantor. Titled ‘As the World Turns’, Encounters will present 18 large-scale installations exploring themes such as mythology, digital-physical intersections, and cultural storytelling. Highlights include Monster Chetwynd’s Lanternfly Ballet, a site-specific installation supported by Swire Properties at Pacific Place, and Lu Yang’s pop-up digital art store featuring works by the artist’s avatar, presented by de Sarthe and COMA.
The Kabinett sector will reach new heights this year with 36 gallery presentations, its largest offering to date. This section will spotlight thematic and solo projects, with a strong focus on Asia-Pacific artists. Among the highlights are Takahiro Kondo’s innovative ceramic works exploring water’s transformative qualities and Martin Wong’s ceramics and paintings reflecting cultural identity, presented by Tokyo Gallery + BTAP and P.P.O.W, respectively.
Complementing the exhibitions is an extensive Public Program that will run throughout the week, both onsite at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and offsite at leading cultural institutions like M+ and Tai Kwun. The Film Program, curated by Hong Kong’s Para Site, will feature seven screenings and works by 30 artists, delving into themes of resilience, ecological interdependence, and technological realities. Additionally, the Conversations program will bring together thought leaders to explore the intersection of art, technology, and contemporary culture.
A new highlight for 2025 is the MGM Discoveries Art Prize, designed to support emerging artists. The prize offers a USD 50,000 award and will spotlight innovative works by shortlisted artists Shin Min, Kayode Ojo, and Saju Kunhan, with the winner announced during the fair.
Art Basel Hong Kong 2025 will also feature exciting new collaborations with cultural organizations such as Design Trust and Tomorrow Maybe. For the first time, the Art Basel Shop will debut in Hong Kong, offering curated lifestyle products to enhance the art experience.
