The police have arrested a fifth suspect in the investigation into the theft from the Drents Museum in Assen. The 36-year-old man was arrested in a residence in Alkmaar. The stolen golden treasures have not yet been found.
The suspect was arrested by the police this morning and has since been brought to a police station. There, he will be questioned on his role in the theft. The 36-year-old man from Alkmaar is the fifth person who has been arrested in this investigation. The police were able to arrest the man based on information that came up in their ongoing investigation. The man is not the suspect who was seen in a hardware store in Assen, of whom the police have previously published video footage.
After the arrest, the police conducted a search in the house in Alkmaar. Data carriers that were found, have been impounded and will be investigated further.
The investigation into the theft is still ongoing, and the priority is set on retrieving the stolen golden treasures. This investigation has previously let to the arrest of four suspects. Of them, three are still in custody.
