The mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and the Municipal Council unanimously voted to rename a square near the Pont Neuf in honor of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, according to a message on the Facebook page maintained by the foundation managing their legacy.
The square around the statue of Henri IV, previously known as "Place de Pont Neuf", will be called "Christo and Jeanne-Claude".
Christo and Jeanne-Claude met in Paris in 1958, and their partnership began there, both creatively and personally.
It is no coincidence that the place that will bear the name "Christo and Jeanne-Claude". This year marks the 40th anniversary of the two artists' project to wrap the Pont Neuf in Paris. On September 22, 1985, Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude wrapped the Pont Neuf in 40,000 square meters of fabric tied with ropes.
