€300,000 Masterpiece Unveiled on Dutch TV

A record was set during the recording of a new season of the dutch TV show Tussen Kunst en Kitsch.

A painting by Alexej von Jawlensky has been valued at 300,000 euros. Never before in the forty-year existence of Tussen Kunst en Kitsch has an object been valued at such a high value, reports broadcaster AVROTROS. The painting belonged to the grandfather of the current owner.

Her grandfather owned a shoe store and was a hobby collector. After his death, his art collection was divided among his children. That's how it ended up with the father of the current owner.

Presenter Frits Sissing calls it "a celebration" that this painting appears during the anniversary year of the program. "This find proves once again that international masterpieces from family properties can also turn up in the Netherlands. It goes without saying that it had been hanging on the wall for three generations. A find like this makes the program so exciting and timeless.
