Born in Tokyo into a French artistic family, Michel Testard has lived a life rich in travel and cultural immersion in Asia, Europe and Africa. His art vividly captures a large range of themes from realistic landscapes, urban or rural scenes, portraits and interiors. Michel also ventures into fantasy with his dreamlike "Room with a View" series from Goa, Kipling inspired jungles.
His work, influenced by Masters like Matisse, Gauguin and Amrita Sher-Gill, is full of
imagination, vibrant colors and spontaneity. Michel’s originality lies in his blend of East and West, reality and fantasy, creating a body of work that reflects his dedication to cultural exploration and the beauty of seeing the world through a wandering, reflective lens.
Michel Testard: "This scene is inspired by the great film 'the music room' or 'Jalsaghar' made by the Bengali film director Satyajit Ray.'Jalsaghar' depicts the end days of a decadent zamindar (landlord) in Bengal and his efforts to uphold his family prestige while facing economic adversity. The landlord, B. Roy loves to spend time listening to music and putting up shows in his grand drawing room rather than managing his properties and land.
This scene shows B.Roy with his guests listening to a famous lady singer, Begum Akhtar. The music of the film was made by the great Sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb.
Each of Satyajit Ray's scenes are made with a remarkable attention to the overall
composition, settings, light and shade, making each of them a true painting. Having spent quite some time in India and having had the opportunity to play the sitar, I have tried to paint this scene in colors. As a tribute to Indian Classical Music and Satyajit Ray."
