Born in Tokyo into a French artistic family, Michel Testard has lived a life rich in travel and cultural immersion in Asia, Europe and Africa. His art vividly captures a large range of themes from realistic landscapes, urban or rural scenes, portraits and interiors. Michel also ventures into fantasy with his dreamlike "Room with a View" series from Goa, Kipling inspired jungles.

His work, influenced by Masters like Matisse, Gauguin and Amrita Sher-Gill, is full of
imagination, vibrant colors and spontaneity. Michel’s originality lies in his blend of East and West, reality and fantasy, creating a body of work that reflects his dedication to cultural exploration and the beauty of seeing the world through a wandering, reflective lens.

Michel Testard: "In the Indian state of Goa where I went several times, there is an old village named Chandor. In Chandor, one can find three very old and grand Portuguese houses which have been kept in the same condition for three centuries.

In these ‘hotels particuliers’ or 'havelis', the visitor slips back in time as he walks through grand staircases, ball rooms, dining halls, bedrooms with four poster beds, chandeliers, mirrors, old Goan furniture and even sedan chairs. And through the windows, there are wonderful views of a tropical garden.

As I came back to Europe during the covid period, I remembered these views as a dream, a dream of being secluded - not in a Paris flat - but in an old Indian 'haveli'. And in India through a haveli’s window, one can see a tropical garden or a sea view. This 'fantasy' painting is inspired by Braganza and Pereira houses from Chandor."
