German sculptor Stephan Balkenhol just finished his work on a large outdoor sculpture. The larger-than-life figure represents a kneeling but upward looking man dressed in a white shirt and black trousers. It is 5.70 metres high and weighs nearly 3 tons. Originally Balkenhol had designed the figure for the Freedom and Unity Monument in Berlin in 2010.
German sculptor Stephan Balkenhol just finished his work on a large outdoor sculpture. The larger-than-life figure represents a kneeling but upward looking man dressed in a white shirt and black trousers. It is 5.70 metres high and weighs nearly 3 tons.
Originally Balkenhol had designed the figure for the Freedom and Unity Monument in Berlin in 2010. Despite being awarded with a prize in this competition the large kneeling man will now be realised in Steinhagen, eastern Westphalia, Germany.
It has been bought by the Hörmann KG, Europe's leading supplier of doors and gates. The coloured bronze sculpture will be placed in front of the company’s new display and training center, but at the same time next to a street, and thus relates to a public space.
The sculpture will be unveiled on 25th September 2015. Balkenhol’s work will be accompanied by a catalogue.
