As the dates for Artissima draw close, we are pleased to confirm our participation within this year’s edition of the fair. As last year, Artdependence will be taking part within #ArtissimaLive – this is an editorial process which brings several online contemporary art publications together on fair grounds to dialogue, collaborate, and provide live coverage of the many events taking place from November 4 to 6.
Torino's International Contemporary Art Fair is headed, now for the fifth year running, by Sarah Cosulich. Under her direction, Artissima has reinforced its identity as a “curated fair” (more so than other art fairs, curators here take the role of consultants and coordinators) and its commitment to research and experimentation. The direction and intention of Artissima is evident within each aspect of its program, which seeks every year to improve upon returning projects and to introduce new inventive elements.
Take, for instance, the concept for the section Dialogue (premiering this year): this section will present booths featuring a maximum of three artists in a coherent and curated project. We are very much looking forward to seeing how creativity responds to limited spaces and participants, and to engage with these shows within the show.
Of course, the yearly return of Artissima also signifies the return of the various parallel projects that take place throughout Torino. This year, Artissima looks beyond the spaces of the Oval Lingotto, and even beyond the possible spaces of the city itself, with a parallel project by German artist Thomas Bayrle taking place in the baggage claim area of Torino Airport.
All in all, Artissima 2016 welcomes 193 galleries from 34 countries, numerous speakers, original publications, and – let’s not forget – the many performers who will be presenting within Perf4rm, curated for the first time by the Dutch collective If I Can’t Dance I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution. Let the countdown to November begin!
