The Morphosis designed Vals project

The design for the luxury high-rise hotel was created by Morphosis Architects. Since its founding in 1972 by design director Thom Mayne, Morphosis has received 25 Progressive Architecture awards, over 100 American Institute of Architects (AIA) awards, and numerous other honors. The future hotel will contain 107 guestrooms and several suites, and will be located in Vals, Switzerland, overlooking a valley and surrounded by serene snowy peaks and cozy chalets. The exterior of the proposed building stands out not only for its advanced use of materials, including a complete glass surface, but also for its height of 381 meters. The idea behind the grandiose height of the hotel is to emphasize the location by ‘lifting’ hotel guests above the Valser Valley, thus bringing them closer to nature. The tower’s glass coating will harmonize with its surroundings by acting as a mirror, creating an abstract combination of both valley and skies. The project is due to be realized in 2019.
