The Board of Trustees and staff of the Camargo Foundation mourn the loss of our longtime board member and beloved friend, Barbara Hunt McLanahan. Barbara has dedicated her career to nurturing and showcasing artists through her wide-ranging accomplishments as a curator and arts administrator in the U.S. and UK. Her position as the Executive Director at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA) in New York perfectly reflected her steadfast belief in the transformative power of art and commitment to making art accessible to all.

Apollo’s Muse: The Moon in the Age of Photography

On July 20, 1969, half a billion viewers around the world watched as the Apollo 11 mission beamed back to earth the first television footage of American astronauts on the moon. This groundbreaking moment dramatically influenced the history of images and expanded the bounds of human perception. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, The Metropolitan Museum of Art will present visual representations of the moon from the dawn of photography through the present in the exhibition Apollo’s Muse: The Moon in the Age of Photography.

Mayor of Venice asks Unesco to Place City on World Heritage Blacklist

The mayor of Venice has asked Unesco to include city on its world heritage site blacklist after Italy’s transport minister failed to deliver a plan to avoid giant cruise ships entering central canals. The years-long controversy on big cruise ships being allowed to use busy canals and dock close to the city center has been reignited after a huge ship crashed into a tourist boat in the busy Giudecca canal in early June.

Gemeentemuseum Discovers Water Lilies under Monet's Wisteria

Conservator Ruth Hoppe got the surprise of her life when she looked at the x-ray of Wisteria. This masterpiece, one of three paintings by Claude Monet (1840-1926) in Gemeentemuseum Den Haag’s collection, was removed from the museum for the first time several months ago and taken to the conservation studio. To investigate the damage to the canvas Hoppe had it x-rayed and had several other tests carried out on it.

One of a Kind Victorian Ceramic Crab at Risk of Export

Arts Minister, Rebecca Pow has placed an export bar on one of the earliest pieces of sculptural art pottery in the country in a bid to keep it in the UK. The work, a large anthropomorphic crab made by Robert Wallace Martin and his brothers, is at risk of being lost abroad unless a buyer can be found to match the £217,250 + VAT of £43,450 asking price.
