The museum joins the network of thirteen heritage locations and ten museums in four countries, all connected by the life and work of Vincent van Gogh.
On 1 June 2023, the National Gallery officially joins Van Gogh Europe, the network of thirteen heritage locations and ten museums in four countries, all connected by the life and work of Vincent van Gogh. The National Gallery joins the Van Gogh House London to become Van Gogh Europe’s second partner in the United Kingdom, the country where Van Gogh lived from May 1873 until October 1874, and again in the first half of 1875.

We look forward to working together with our partners in Van Gogh Europe so as many people as possible might be inspired by the works of this extraordinary artist.’

Van Gogh Europe has expanded rapidly in recent years. The network has welcomed Musée d’Orsay as a new partner, as well as the Municipality of Asnières-sur-Seine, Maison du Dr Gachet in Auvers-sur-Oise, Chateau d’Auvers and the Centraal Museum Utrecht. Van Gogh Roots, Atout France, NBTC and Marketing Drenthe have all also joined Van Gogh Europe as associated partners.
Van Gogh Europe partners will celebrate a number of anniversaries in 2023, including that it will be exactly 150 years since Van Gogh arrived in London, and 140 years since he stayed in Drenthe. The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The anniversary exhibition Van Gogh in Auvers. His Final Months is on display at the museum until 3 September, and will subsequently travel to Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
In 2024, the National Gallery in London is organising a major exhibition on Van Gogh: The Credit Suisse Exhibition – Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers (14 September 2024 – 19 January 2025), featuring world-famous artworks including Sunflowers, Garden of the Asylum and The Bedroom.
