Palma's contemporary art museum Es Baluard celebrated its twentieth anniversary last week with an exhibition of works from its own collection.
For the Prime Minister of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, this was reason enough to announce an ambitious project: Mallorca hosting an international art fair.
Talks have been held with important galleries and artistic institutions on site, and another museum for modern and contemporary art is planned, which will be housed in the former Gesa building in Palma. The Es Baluard Museum, in turn, could become the focal point of the future art fair. The holiday island of Mallorca had previously tried hosting art fairs, however initiatives such as Art Cologne Palma or Art Mallorca did not last.
