The Kochi Biennale Foundation has appointed artist Nikhil Chopra with HH Art Spaces as the new curatorial team for the 6th edition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale. India’s first biennale of international contemporary art and the largest exhibition of contemporary art in South Asia, it will open to the public from 12 December 2025 until 31 March 2026.
The event is South Asia’s largest contemporary art exhibition and India’s first biennale of international contemporary art.
Chopra and HH Art Spaces were chosen by a committee comprising Bose Krishnamachari, the biennale’s founder and president; curator Shanay Jhaveri; artist Jitish Kallat; photographer Dayanita Singh; and collector and curator Rajeeb Samdani. Chopra explores themes of identity and its construction, autobiography, and authorship through a practice interweaving durational performance, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and installation. A participant in the Second Kochi-Muziris Biennale, he has shown work in major international exhibitions including Documenta 14, the Twelfth Sharjah Biennale, the Twelfth Havana Biennale, and the Fifty-Third Venice Biennale. Alongside artist Romain Loustau, Chopra established HH Art Spaces in 2014. The collective has facilitated and curated residencies and workshops with a focus on contemporary live art and performance.
