Winner of the Masters Salon Painting 2017 announced!

For the fourth time KoMASK (a non-profit organisation) is organising an international painting contest, in accordance with the tradition of the “Salons” organized since 1840. The award is aimed at graduating students in the discipline of painting, but also at supporting institutions in order to offer students better future perspectives. Yesterday the jury of KoMASK announced the winners.

Winner of the Masters Salon Painting 2017 announced!

For the fourth time KoMASK (a non-profit organisation) is organising an international painting contest, in accordance with the tradition of the “Salons” organized since 1840. The award is aimed at graduating students in the discipline of painting, but also at supporting institutions in order to offer students better future perspectives. 

Thirteen Royal Institutions were contacted, which will each select four candidates from their graduating Master students to participate in this contest. The awards ceremony and following exhibition takes place in the “Lange Zaal” of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. The award-winning artwork can be purchased by KoMASK. 

The participating institutions are: The Hague-The Netherlands, Stockholm-Sweden, Madrid-Spain, London-United Kingdom, Liege-Belgium, Helsinki-Finland, Ghent-Belgium, Copenhagen-Denmark, Brussels-Belgium, Antwerp-Belgium. PM: Berlin-Germany, Oslo-Norway, Vienna-Austria.

The first prize is €5000 and KoMASK and the artist agree that the institution can purchase his or her work for a maximum amount of €3000.

Greg Van Staey, born in 1994 (Belgian). Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, Winning painting "Caught in the dark".
Jury report about the winner: "The jury was unanimous because of the originality. The rather common subject is painted with audacity." Semyon Mikhaylovsky from the Academie of St-Petersburg invites the winner Greg Van Staey for a solo exposition in 2018. De winner has one year to paint new work and introduce in Sint-Petersburg.

The jury appointed the honorable mentions for the artist , not for one particular painting.

Anna is a graduate of Moscow’s Photo Academy, with a previous background in intellectual property rights. In 2012 she founded the company Perspectiva Art, dealing in art consultancy, curatorship, and the coordination of exhibitions. During the bilateral year between Russia and The Netherlands in 2013, Perspectiva Art organized a tour for a Dutch artist across Russia, as well as putting together several exhibitions in the Netherlands, curated by Anna. Anna has taken an active role in the development and management of ArtDependence Magazine. She left ArtDependence in 2019. Anna interviews curators and artists, in addition to reviewing books and events, and collaborating with museums and art fairs.
