Bartholomeeusen took over the role of Antony Hudek, who has led the museum for three years. With a background that spans from art history through economics, Bartholomeeusen worked internationally as a gallerist and art fair director.
Bartholomeeusen will lead Dhondt-Dhaenens to a next sustainable chapter while strengthening MDD’s identity.
Goedele Bartholomeeusen, newly appointed director of MDD:
“MDD has always served as a destination for artists, collectors and a curious public to engage with art in a lush natural environment. MDD's next chapter will focus on merging the museum and its sculpture garden, preserving the historic site as we equip the institution for the demands of the future. The second renovation, com- mencing in September 2023, will transform the current building to embrace this new chapter by reducing its carbon footprint and expanding the exhibition spaces. We will become a stronger institution, better able to nurture the creative freedom of artists and curators while cultivating the cross-pollination of ideas from local and international sources. MDD will be a thriving laboratory for exceptional talent to grow and evolve.”
Christine Claus, chairman of the Board of Directors:
“Goedele Bartholomeeusen joined MDD as managing director in early 2022. After the departure of artistic director Antony Hudek in mid-February 2023, she assumed full leadership of the museum. With her dual degree in economics and art history, her extensive knowledge of visual arts, and solid international experience, Goedele is an excellent general director who ensures a successful relaunch of MDD. The Board did not hesitate to express its confidence in her in this regard.”
