Since each year's Berlin Biennale is put together by a different curator, this art event is influenced by his or her perception of society and the modern world. The Biennale explores artistic developments and presents the unfamiliar against the backdrop of the city, its people and their relationship to art.
The Berlin Biennale is an "open space" that critically examines and experiments with the latest trends in the art world. The innovative character of this "art lab" will be expanded with the particular aim of giving young artists the opportunity to present their art to the public.
The Berlin Biennale was founded in 1998 on the initiative of Eberhard Mayntz and Klaus Biesenbach in order to promote an international forum for contemporary art in Berlin.
The KW Institute for Contemporary Art has been the supporting organization of the Berlin Biennale since 2004. Its significance for the cultural landscape is reflected in the patronage granted by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation).

Instead of simply recognizing, and even cultivating, the fact that there is a tendency of lack of content in the way we produce, express, experience and communicate about art, we should get worried and start questioning how it came about. How come the apathy is taking over and replacing the content with fear? In whose interest is the fear of content?
These and other important questions regarding apathy, fear, self-censorship and internet are being touched upon in artworks by Thierry Geoffroy/COLONEL as part of the BIENNALIST format that responds and questions the themes of biennials around the world.
